Jack Harlow‘s 2020 breakout hit “Whats Poppin” becomes his first Diamond-certified record by the Recording Industry Association of America, the RIAA announced on Thursday (March 13). The Diamond plaque also doubled as a birthday present, considering the news arrived on Harlow’s 27th birthday.
Diamond certification is given to artists whose songs have moved 10 million units. According to the RIAA, one equivalent song unit is equal to a single digital song sale, or 150 on-demand audio and/or video streams.
“#WhatsPoppin? @jackharlow just went [diamond emoji] with his first RIAA Diamond certification, plus 10 new Gold and Platinum certifications added to the collection! @atlanticrecords,” the RIAA posted on its social media accounts.
Harlow’s sophomore album, Come Home the Kids Miss You, “Churchill Downs” collaboration with Drake, “Dua Lipa” track and “SUVs (Black on Black)” collaboration with Pooh Shiesty are now Platinum certified, while his Billboard Hot 100-topping singles “First Class” and “Lovin on Me” went 4x Platinum, “Tyler Herro” went 3x Platinum and his debut album, Thats What They All Say, went 2x Platinum. “Route 66” featuring EST Gee and “Luv Is Dro” featuring Static Major and Bryson Tiller, are now gold certified.
Harlow posted all of his plaques on Instagram in a carousel he captioned with a series of diamond emojis.
“Whats Poppin” was the lead single from his 2020 EP Sweet Action, which was released via Generation Now and Atlantic Records. It was also included on his 2020 album, Thats What They All Say, as well as the remix featuring DaBaby, Tory Lanez and Lil Wayne. The song reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and hit No. 1 on Rhythmic Airplay. It was nominated for best rap performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
